What Types of Jobs are Available in Global Finance?

Global FinanceThose interested in the types of jobs available in global finance have many different jobs to choose from, and choosing between the available careers will depend largely on whether an aspiring management professional wishes to have a management role or more of an analyst role. Of course, an analyst may work his or her way up into analysts over time. While an analyst or management position are probably two of the most common types of position within global or international finance, an individual could also specialize in another area such as planning, global marketing, sales, or an IT role within a global finance firm, according to Investopedia.

The Global Financial Analyst

A financial analyst is generally responsible for providing financial advice to both businesses and individual investors. A global financial analyst will need to have a more thorough understanding of not only how individual financial markets develop and operate in different parts of the world, but also how these individual financial markets interact with other markets overseas.

A global financial analyst can expect to work with a more diverse clientele, and he or she may experience more work demands than a financial analyst focusing on a particular market in the world. However, he or she also will have more opportunity and more investment resources available, and this can often make it easier to achieve financial success for clients. A successful applicant to a global financial analyst position will usually need to have a bachelor’s degree at the very least; however, it is helpful to have a master’s degree when seeking such a position.

The Financial Manager

A financial manager will be more focused on the broader picture of how healthy a global finance organization is doing overall. They are responsible for coming up with broader strategies aimed at achieving long term goals of the company for which they work. Financial managers will generally make more money than financial advisors, and they will also need more work experience before landing a position. However, they sometimes do not need to have as much academic experience as a global financial analyst should have and can often find an appropriate position with only a bachelor’s degree.

A global financial manager may have to travel for work and is likely to work for an international company, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics. He or she will most likely need to have an aptitude for working amid diversity. A financial manager will likely have to deal with, and sometimes direct the actions of, both clients and employees who are from another cultural background. He will need to communicate well and bring together information coming from diverse sources to best determine how to carry out the complex task of managing an international company.

The Finance Director

Above a financial manager at a global finance company is a finance director who will be responsible for using his or her leadership skills to carry out tasks such as analyzing financial results, develop budget and cash flow models, controlling company needs such as payroll, control of expenses, acquiring the appropriate business insurance, etc.
